I met a woman last week who I can’t stop thinking about. She is surviving on her own on Colfax. She grew up in the neighborhood and moved out of state with a guy who she believed loved her. He taught her all of the skills she needed to protect herself and make the most money. He looked out for her. She told me,”He made me into a different entity.”

She was being trafficked and she didn’t know it.

She finally ran away to make it on her own. There is rescue and redemption for her, but we can’t run in a save her. She is an adult and believes the work she is doing now is in her own control. She has to be ready to heal, ready to take the resources available to her.

This is a recurring story that we hear. We are connecting with organizations that can help provide recovery while we show up, love people, and build relationships. We can provide access to rescue and redemption through relationships. This is something that we have always done, but we are creating a more purposeful approach by starting female-only hours in the Family Room this fall. If this is something you are interested in you should come to our Fall Fundraising Dessert or one of the Family Room tours to learn more.

YOU ARE INVITED!

We are thrilled to invite you to our second annual fundraising dessert. The event starts at 7 pm with dessert and the program will start shortly after at 7:15. Last Year’s fundraising dessert provided the funding for Jesus on Colfax to get started with the family room. Now a year later there are two locations and hundreds of lives have been touched. This year’s event will be a night of stories of what God has done over the last year.

Come and see

Along with the Fundraising dessert, we would love to give you a tour of the Family Room. The tour dates are 8/6, 8/17, and 8/20 from 6-7 pm. Sign up here

The Family Rooms are drop-in rooms where people can enjoy community and take steps toward wellbeing. Members get points for attending classes and taking steps toward their goals. They can then spend those points like cash in the store on food, clothing, and hygiene items.

Host a Table

Would you like to fill a table with your friends? We would love for you to host a table! There is no requirement except to invite your community. Are there some people that you would like to hear about Jesus on Colfax? Host a table and introduce us!

We can’t believe the summer is wrapping up!

Every year we have a summer BBQ season (from now on this will be known as Burgers on Colfax since will do not BBQ we grill. This is for our people from the South who are serious about BBQ. We apologize for our flippancy😜). It is such a fun time where we meet new friends and have time to sit. It is one of the highlights of our summer AND it is a lot of work. We celebrate the end of the summer with a leadership retreat. This year we stayed in town and enjoyed some family time at Cherry Creek Reservoir and some time with just the leadership team playing top golf, eating good food, and talking about culture and leadership.

Our vision at JOC is that we are rising together through relationship out of poverty of soul and circumstance. That means us too! Taking time grow in love for each other and rest as a team is so important for our souls. We want to be in this for the long haul and we know that means we need to take care of ourselves and each other.

Other ways to get involved:

We are opening up slots to cook or buy and serve a community meal on Mondays. (Bring your office!) Sign up here.

If you have been through training, sign up to volunteer in the Family Room. Sign up Here for the Radiant or Here for the Riviera.

Host a drive to stock the Family Room or buy things from the Amazon wish list.
