July Newsletter

Hello!
I hope you are enjoying your summer!

Summer is in full swing here at JOC! Here are a few highlights:

Summer BBQs

Summer BBQs are a great time to spend time hanging out with our friends and meeting new friends. Every Tuesday in the summer, along with going to the motels, we rotate the BBQs between the motels.

We have 6 interns from Gen Send and a local church who are helping out with the BBQs and spending Tuesdays helping with the Family Room and some other tasks. We are so grateful for the next generation and their love for the materially poor! These students have been such a blessing to us and the JOC friends!

Partner event with Wholly Kicks

Wholly kicks is a great organization in the neighborhood that provides shoes! They came with their trailer, a load of shoes, and and joy to serve our friends during the Family Room. It has been fun to see our friends walking around in their new kicks! Thanks Wholly Kicks!!

Wedding of some of our friends

With the increase in migrants coming to Denver, we have many new friends from Venezuela, Columbia, and more countries every week. One couple asked Philip and Shawn to marry them! What a joy to get to celebrate their wedding and family!

While there have been incredible high points in the last month, there have also been some devastating things to walk through with people. More often than I can count we said, “This is not how things were meant to be.” Mourning and celebrating are held in each hand; both can be true.
