June Newsletter

Greetings to all of you who follow our work at JOC and regularly support us in so many ways. We are grateful for you!

This month’s Newsletter starts with some exciting news that will strengthen our team and ministry moving forward.

Kayla Horne has been named by our board as Co-Executive Director of JOC with me. Many of you have interacted with Kayla but I’d like to tell you a bit more about her. She and her husband Matt have been working with JOC in a variety of ways for 5 years. Kayla has been on staff for 4 years now and over that time has grown into more and more responsibility. For the last year or so she has been essentially running all that we do as a ministry (as some of you know, that is not my strength!). She also has just finished her Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Management from Regis University as part of her preparation for this role.

Kayla has a unique heart for our friends and a powerful gift mix for running an organization. Over the last year she has become my full partner in leading JOC. We work well together and her gifts in running JOC are giving me more space to deal with larger issues for JOC, for telling our story and for working with our donors. In addition, her work is freeing me up to have more time to do my real love, which is be on the street, being a pastor and friend to the people we work with. She has been, is, and will be a gift to me and to all that we are doing.

We have a lot of exciting things in front of us right now, as well as some challenges. This move strengthens us moving forward and we are grateful to Jesus for Kayla.

If you have the time, watch the brief video on our social media platforms to hear more about this and to acquaint yourself with Kayla.

Blessings,

Shawn

Prayer Requests:

  • We have many friends with health needs right now. Pray for healing and for peace where healing is not the answer.

  • Summer is such a fun time at JOC with Tuesday night BBQs on top of everything else we do. People are happier to be outside and we often connect with many new friends. Pray that this summer will be the same and we will build meaningful relationships and that through those relationships people will meet Jesus and take steps toward wellbeing.

  • Pray for Andre, who is joining us on staff in July, and his Family as they move to Colorado.

Ways to get involved:

  • We could use some summer items for the Store! Would you consider buying something from our Amazon wish list or organizing the YOUTH GROUP at your church or another group to pick up donations in your neighborhood. We have door hangers you can use to tell your neighbors and go back a few days later to pick up donations. Email kayla@jesusoncolfax.org for more info.

  • Sign up for a community meal

  • If you have been through training sign up for the Family Room at the Radiant or the Riviera

The next Volunteer Training will be August 1.
